A Note From Bernie

“Ever since Elena touched our lives, it was evident that she enjoyed what she was doing and was good at it. She loved my Mom and her visits brightened her days.

It didn’t seem like a job to Elena, she enjoyed bringing joy to my Mom. She went over and above expectations.

She created a memory board for Mom, that included her life history and pictures from every part of her life. Everyone remarked how beautiful it was. Elena celebrated Mom’s birthday with the Hospice staff. She made cupcakes, Mom ate three of them. She is truly compassionate and caring to those under her care. We were fortunate to have Elena being a friend to my Mom and making her days comfortable.

Thanks Elena!”

Betty Brown was a patient I met through my job with hospice. I got to visit her on a regular basis during her months on service with us. I came to love her and cherished the moments learning about her life. Betty taught me a great deal about life, touched my life and I believe I truly touched hers as well. I went to visit Betty in her assisted living facility at the end of her life to sit vigil. As I sat with her, a caretake came into the room and chatted with me for a while. She asked if I was her granddaughter and I casually pointed to the Biography Board and said, “No, I just made that.” She said, “I was asking Betty who made that for her and she always said “My daughter did.”” I didn’t realize how much of an impact we truly have on our patients until that night.
